Qld: First effects of Monica being felt

BRISBANE, April 22 AAP - Severe tropical cyclone Monica is starting to make its presence
felt in the Northern Territory's north east.

Ominous winds are gaining strength at Nhulunbuy, police spokeswoman Rosanna Breed said.

The community is fully prepared for cyclonic conditions, she said.

Residents of nearby out stations have moved into town and those preparing to take cover
in shelters are standing by for warning signals to sound before the cyclone hits, Ms Breed
said.
