NSW:Greens firm in Balmain

The New South Wales state seat of Balmain is going right down to the wire .. with the
latest figures from the election showing Greens candidate JAMIE PARKER has firmed as the
winner.

While Liberal Party candidate JAMES FALK is ahead on the primary vote for the inner
Sydney seat .. because of preference flows the race to win Balmain is between former education
minister VERITY FIRTH and Mr PARKER.

With 90 per cent of the vote counted Mr PARKER leads Ms FIRTH by a margin of just 223 votes.

RICHARD CARROLL from the NSW Electoral Commission says the result may not be known
until early tomorrow and a recount is likely given the closeness of the result.

Candidates have 24 hours to ask for a recount .. which would be held on Monday.
